Looking for a new way to raise money for your cause, organization, or event? Have you thought about selling stickers? If not, it’s worth considering! What’s great about selling stickers as a fundraiser is that the benefit is twofold. You obviously want to make some money from the sale of the stickers but what sets stickers apart from other items to sell as a fundraiser is that stickers are made to be seen. After you sell a sticker, the person who purchased it is going to display it, which in turn generates further awareness of your organization and/or message. Win-win right?
If you decide to sell stickers as a fundraiser, here are 4 important tips to keep in mind:
Think beyond the bumper sticker
People have different preferences when it comes to stickers. Some people love to display car window decals and bumper stickers in an effort to showcase the organizations, causes, etc. that are near and dear to their hearts. Other people prefer to keep their vehicle void of these items, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t decorate their laptops, water bottles, phone cases, or other items they own with custom shaped stickers to add some personality. Design a sticker and select a size that works on many items.
Justify the price
Be realistic about how much your intended target audience will be willing to spend on fundraiser stickers. The quality and design should justify the price that you are planning on selling the sticker for.
Keep the message short
People should be able to instantly recognize what the sticker represents. Don’t confuse people! This is especially true for car bumper stickers. Unless someone is stopped at an extremely long red light behind the car with a bumper sticker (OK, yes, this happens), the sticker only has a few seconds to form an impression. Don’t be wordy.
Set the trend in motion
If you’re the person (or team) responsible for selling these fundraising stickers, you better “walk the walk”. Purchase them yourself and proudly display them wherever you can. It’s important to convey a sense of community and create a desire for others to buy the sticker. Nobody wants to be left out! When the fundraiser is just getting started, give some away to get the trend started. Once people start asking, “Where did the cool sticker come from?” your sales will explode!
I have never been good at fundraising. But doing it with something fun like stickers could be a whole different experience. It does seem smart to do what you suggested and do custom shaped stickers and thinking beyond bumper stickers.
