Shepard Fairey was doing it (and was arrested for it) before he became a famous artist. Alexis Ohanian one of the founders of Reddit admitted to it (in writing) and has gone on to be a respected entrepreneur and writer. And I admit, I’ve done it. We’ve all stuck stickers in places we did not necessarily have permission to be sticking things. There can be a fine line between art and vandalism – promotion and graffiti.
Street sticker “artists” and law enforcement may have different ideas about where an acceptable stickering “line” might be, but for businesses and promotion I have a few general rules of etiquette. “Please stick responsibly” is an often used mantra, but what exactly does that mean?
I say, go ahead (when no ones looking) and slap up a sticker. But, stay away from cheap, paper stickers – those leave a mess for everyone (the viewer, the cleaner and your brand). These custom vinyl stickers are best. And, don’t stick on the front of signs – the authorities get a bit more touchy when safety is involved… or tourism… or the economy is effected.
And don’t forget, there are plenty of places you can legally place your stickers. Like everything you own and anywhere you can join a grouping of other cool stickers. Many bars, sport shops, clubs are happy to add to their sticker collections and decor… just ask if they’ll include your sticker.
What do you think? Where are great places to stick promotional or street stickers? The trick is for them to be in a visible location but not so in your face or trashy looking that local governments, business owners and residents want them cleaned up.

id say its fine, as long as your sticker doesn’t cover the important stuff on a sign, like if you put stickers cover all of the stop sign then that’s kinda bad because some people won’t know if its a stop sign or not, same goes with street signs
Man you sticka doodz are badmen
I am starting to admire the art of sticker graffiti thing but actual graffiti not much but I’m kind of afraid on putting a sticker up of how much trouble I’m gonna get into and i don’t wanna get in trouble but guess ill risk it ya dig?
i think you should be arrested for placing up a sticker that is about 1 foot or bigger. but please i asked everyone in my class and they said ”no, you shouldnt get in any trouble and if they were a cop they would admire it (unless its really bad or messing with safety precuations). i just put one up today at vernonia school district, feb, 1, 2019 y’all. im gonna put up some more tomarrow. jesters im thinkin.
No you should not be arrested, who ever arrested you tell them that they are stupid for doing that. It’s just stickers, whats the big deal, am I right? Unless it’s like super glued on to the wall or car, then that is vandalism. Really trust me, I super glued a sticker and put it on the school wall, lets say that I got into big trouble. Alright lets get back to the point, my point is you should not put super glue on stickers and smack it on someone else car, three words,DON’T DO IT. A regular sticker, well its not a big deal, just wash it and scrub it and boom the stickers are off. Unless there are more then three stickers in one spot.
I bought my “mark” from Websticker and it was carefully and thoughtfully produced. VINYL so that if the public place I stuck my sticker was not appreciated it did NOT leave that mess that paper stickers leave when peeled and never quite removed. TRASHY.
My sticker has a positive message and has been allowed space on the back of three outdoor signs at my local food store for over three years!!!!
Other spots, which may not be so kosher are stop signs and on signs but NOT on the message on the sign.
In this college town it can be very interesting and humorous but when the paper mess is left or some smack down is the issue, it’s not cool.
I must admit, I really really like the “rush” of doing my little thing illegally.
