When buying custom stickers for your business it is easy to focus entirely on the price or sticker design itself, but don’t forget the back side of the sticker. Sometimes called a sticker back slit or crack and peel stickers it is essential for stand alone stickers to have an easy way to separate the sticker from it’s backing paper.
It is not a problem with roll labels or sticker sheets but for non-sheeted stickers it is essential to have a face slit or back slit, crack & peel option for a few reasons:
Is it a sticker? It may not be entirely obvious to a recipient that it is a sticker if there is no evidence of an easy way to remove backing paper. If someone doesn’t know it is a sticker obviously it isn’t going to get stuck anywhere (except perhaps in the trash).
Keep on picking at it. If a custom sticker requires a magnifying glass and long finger nails to remove from it’s backing paper the sticker can be easily damaged as well as aggravate the user. They just wanted a sticker, not a part time job that requires special training. Again, more of your stickers in the trash.
The purpose of a custom promotional sticker is making a connection with your target market and increasing brand exposure. Not having an easy crack-and-peel way for recipients to recognize and apply the custom stickers weakens the human connection and reduces exposure. So you may save a few bucks on those digitally printed stickers with no back slit, but in the end everyone loses. When reviewing those hard to believe custom sticker prices, don’t forget to ask whether they are back slit stickers. Without the crack and peel option those cheap stickers will lessen the impact and effectiveness of your sticker campaign.

Why do some stickers have multiple back slits? One is very useful… but 4 or 5 is annoying. Can someone explain please?
That should be very uncommon and is not something that ever could happen at Websticker, unless requested. The only reason I can think that would happen is that a producer may be grouping many different jobs and sizes on a sheet. The back slitting is cut when stickers are still grouped on larger sheets. In order for there to be a back slit on every (smaller) sticker there could end up being multiple slits on the larger stickers.
Stickers with no back slits are the worst! Plus, even if you can peel them off, the edges always get ruined and the sticker looks sloppy. Glad to hear Websticker always uses back slits!
I find it very frustrating when a sticker does not have an easy to peel backing. Thank you for providing this option on all of your promotional stickers.
