Fuel Tank Stickers & Decals – Maximize Marketing Effectiveness

Often when I talk about promotional stickers I offer the advice that bigger is not necessarily better. In the case of fuel tanks (and dumpsters, containers, large equipment, etc.) this is certainly not the case. Bigger and bolder can be awesome for fuel tank stickers. When applying stickers to tanks and equipment that you own and control the emphasis is on branding, advertising and signage, not custom stickers you rely on someone else applying somewhere. So, go big with those fuel tank decals!

You control the placement and real estate and have a tremendous, low-cost opportunity to make thousands of impressions with fuel tank stickers. But, you need to make the right impression and the large equipment decals need to last and keep branding over the long term. Here are some branding & marketing tips to consider for your fuel tank stickers & decals.

Logo & Identity First

Before you can have a powerful fuel tank sticker you need a powerful logo that properly reflects your unique identity. The logo should look current, simple and broadcast your name, slogan or vibe in an instant (and from a distance).

Fuel Tank Sticker Design Basics

The size and shape of your fuel tank stickers and equipment decals need to work in tandem with the printed logo. Keep it simple and remember that the back ground medium is part of your logo. Don’t just necessarily stick your logo on a stock rectangular piece of vinyl (unless appropriate). And, make sure there is a way to contact you on all fuel tank decals (even if it’s small print) with a phone number and/or URL.

Beyond The Fuel Tank Decal

It’s not just the fuel tank sticker itself that is your sign and represents your identity. It is the entire tank (or vehicle or receptacle) that reflects and promotes your brand. The fuel tank decals are just a part of the overall impression. For different applications (like different sized tanks) consider different sized promotional stickers or even completely different design layouts that best blend and work together with the medium they are applied to.

Don’t Be Shy or Cheap with Your Fuel Tank Stickers

If a certain size, multiple stickers or more colors are needed, do what is best for the application and your logo & identity. Of course if a size, layout and style can be optimized for multiple purposes than money can be saved while still optimizing your custom vinyl stickers for maximum exposure.

The Quality of Your Brand

The quality and durability of your stickers and decals reflects quality of your brand. Fading, peeling, or a logo straight out of the 50’s… broadcasting these qualities can damage your brand instead of promoting it.
