I believe every company can utilize promotional stickers in some way. I’ve pushed that thought before and as a sticker guy, that makes perfect sense. But, I hadn’t really spent much time contemplating a bigger, more important question: What makes a promotional sticker different from any other sticker?
After careful consideration, my conclusion? Nothing. I believe every sticker (unless blank) is promotional. Every sticker made is designed to promote some idea, image or message in some way. Let’s take name-tags for example.
Name tag labels are a sticker that promotes who you are at a gathering of people. It is designed to break down barriers a bit and have people more comfortable meeting, socializing or networking with each other. If you are wearing a name tag you are promoting being approachable and open to a conversations.
I’m not sure how it happened but somehow I hadn’t heard about “The Name Tag Guy”, Scott Ginsberg, till I read about him in an article the other day. This guy has made a career out of wearing a name tag every day (for over 14 years at time of print)! Seriously. This guy isn’t in the sticker business per say, but he has built a lucrative career speaking, blogging, writing books, etc. around the consistent use of one particular type of promotional sticker. I often encourage brands to create stickers that are badges. The Name Tag Guy reversed the order, starting with a sticker badge and then creating the brand.
This is a great story, I encourage you to check out his TEDx Talk and hear Scott’s story. There are definitely some take away promotional tips any business can benefit from.
