Word Of Mouth Marketing Tools To Spread The Passion

How do you get people talking? Word of mouth marketing takes place when people have an extraordinary experience and they are compelled to share it with others. Businesses can encourage positive word-of-mouth by offering great products, services, or something unique and different. But, beyond those core identity factors there are tools that can be used to stimulate questions and conversations.

Here’s a short list: t-shirt, hats, stickers, pins, patches, luggage tags, tattoos (temporary or permanent). These are promo products/tools but they are also personal expressions. By displaying something on their body, their vehicle, or personal possessions a person obviously has a strong connection to that idea or organization. These are the people you want talking about your business, product or idea. They are your advocates. Giving them the proper promotional products will not only start conversations but turn them into a volunteer sales force.

“It has been proven that visual cues spark conversation. So how can you use this knowledge to find ways to keep your passion, cause, product, or brand visible?”

That is from a book called The Passion Conversation, which I highly recommend. Though, they missed mentioning custom promotional stickers, which I believe to be the most versatile and best value of the conversation-starting tools, the book is filled with inspiring examples of the need for passion in a business and the best ways to spread that passion (marketing).

The team at Brains On Fire which wrote The Passion Conversation also had a few relevant tips when creating conversation starting tools like stickers.

“Less is more when it comes to conversation tools. You have to fight the urge to tell your whole story. No one wants to be a walking brochure. You want something that invites a question or a conversation.”

Another tip is to create disruptive experiences.

Here’s one last blunt truism from The Passion Conversation to leave you with and then you can buy the book and start further brainstorming  ways to stand out in the crowd by enhancing your own story, creating better tools to spread the story, and getting people thinking, questioning and talking:

“No passion, no conversation. No conversation, no word of mouth. No word of mouth, no successful business.”
